(profile from 1980 Arena programme) After ten years racing on grass tracks, in F2 Stocks, stock saloons and go-karts, 30-year-old Chris switched to Midgets at the start of 1979 because he was told it was cheaper. 'It was a choice between these and Formula Ones but I made a mistake. The cost of these is frightening - around £70 a meeting', he said. He has always been known as a good bet for a second or third place but last year he won the British Championship to get his first major title.

Chris, who comes from Kettering, started racing when Chick Woodroffe was promoter at Boston, Kings Lynn and He is married to Susan, has two children: Kerry and Justin and sells cars for a living. He also has faithful mechanics and goes well at Arena.
