VW pilot Harry Sayell stormed to five out of six wins at Hi Edge to follow his hat-trick at Arena just a few weeks before. This incredible string of results puts him into a commanding lead in the series - his seventh successive title seemingly closer than ever. Despite this, Sayell would probably have traded some of those wins for victory in the British Championship - the only race he has failed to win in the last two race meetings.

The British Championship race saw a flag to flag win for the Dastle-Ford of Gordon Pooley - the trophy staying in March, Cambridgeshire although moving from Gary Granger's house to Pooley's. Pooley made the most of the generous blue grade start to claim an early lead whilst the star drivers fought among themselves while driving through the pack. The anticipated battle between National Series battlers Stuart Haynes and Sayell was brought to a premature end when the former retired with suspension failure. Driver of the race was Clinton Dorrell who, in only his fourth ever Midget race, blasted through from the very back of the field in the new Westfield to take second ahead of Sayell and the BMC of Andy Collins.

In the support races (over the two days), Sayell was unstoppable, taking five wins out of five and all from the back of the grid. Dorrell took two seconds while Haynes took a brace of seconds and a third. Meanwhile, lone lady racer Rosemary Staniford continued to make history and progress by scoring points in four of the five races. Sayell has extended his lead in the National Series to 63 points from Haynes. Pooley won the front engined class and moves into third.
